In 1909, Sheikh Mubarak al-Sabah (Mubarak the Great) invited physicians from the Arabian Mission of the Reformed Church of America (RCA) to establish a hospital in Kuwait. In 1914, the first building of the American Mission Hospital (known to locals as Al Americani ) was completed. This hospital was the first official hospital in Kuwait.
